Stockport: A mum and her little girl have been living without heating and hot water for over a year. Can you believe that? Courtney and her one-year-old daughter, Esme, have faced all sorts of problems in their flat at Brecon Towers, like dampness, mould, and even a leak. It sounds like a nightmare, and to make it worse, the housing association hasn’t been very helpful.

Courtney first reported the heating issue back in November 2023. Since then, the water has only been lukewarm. She’s had to go to her parents’ place just to give Esme a proper bath. Plus, those electric heaters have jacked up her bills to over £1,000 a year. That’s a lot of money!

Stockport Homes finally fixed the heating and hot water on January 3, but they say they first heard about the problem last February. They provided Courtney with three electric heaters and promised to reimburse her for the extra costs. But here’s the kicker: they claim they couldn’t get into the flat because Courtney didn’t respond to their attempts to contact her. Courtney, however, says she was waiting around for them to show up, but no one came.

She’s really frustrated. “Every time they say they’ve tried to come, I’ve been here waiting,” she said. “They never let me know when they’re coming. I’ve got a kid; I wouldn’t miss an appointment about heating!”

She reported the leak on Boxing Day, but again, she says they didn’t reach out to her. It’s like they just dropped the ball. “I’m not making a fuss for no reason. I care about my child’s health more than anything,” she added.

A spokesperson for Stockport Homes said they’ve tried to contact her multiple times but didn’t get a response. They promised to sort out the reimbursement for her electric heater bills and acknowledged that the repair process hasn’t been up to par. They’re really sorry for the hassle and are committed to fixing any remaining issues quickly.
