They’ve cordoned off the area around the old Atticus bar on Ashley Road. A controlled demolition is planned, but they want to make sure it’s safe first.

The council has closed off a section of Ashley Road for both pedestrians and vehicles. They’re asking everyone to respect the closures and plan for extra travel time.

The building, which dates back to the 1900s, has been empty for about two years. It was last used as a bar, and cracks started appearing in the walls last Friday.

Michael Haworth, who owns a nearby hair salon, even caught the collapse on video. It’s a shocking sight, and many locals are worried about the safety of their own homes.

Valerie Martin, who runs a shop nearby, was stunned when she saw the damage. She’s been in the area for 40 years and can’t believe what happened.

Another resident mentioned how precarious the roof looked before the collapse. It’s a beautiful building, and people are concerned about their safety.

Before the collapse, there were plans to renovate the building. The goal was to keep the shop front and create new spaces inside, but now everything is on hold.
