Castleton: The decision about building 445 new homes has hit a snag. Health and safety worries are at the center of the delay.

Developers GLP Trows LLP and BDW Trading Ltd want to create family homes off Cowm Top Lane. This area, known as Trows Farm, is near the M62 and Cowm Top Business Park.

The plan includes a mix of homes, from two-bedroom houses to larger four and five-bedroom ones. They also want to add parks and playgrounds for families.

This 50-acre site is part of a bigger plan for Greater Manchester called Places for Everyone. But local residents are not too happy about it.

At a recent planning meeting, many objectors voiced their concerns. Lee Herbert, speaking for the locals, mentioned noise during construction and the strain on local services.

Council member Billy Sheerin, who lives nearby, said this development might be a big mistake. He worries about the land’s layout and the single access road.

The developer’s agent assured everyone they could handle the tough terrain. They’ve done their homework and have built in the area before.

They also promised to plant many trees and contribute £10 million towards affordable housing. Plus, they plan to make the project eco-friendly.

However, the one road in and out raised alarms about safety. Councillors wanted to know if there were other routes for emergencies.

In the end, the committee decided to hold off on the application. They want to explore other access options before moving forward.
