We explored a unique dining experience in Manchester’s Northern Quarter. SAMPA, run by a MasterChef star, offers a delightful blend of Brazilian and local flavors.

Manchester: Have you heard about that cool restaurant in a sports bar? It’s called SAMPA, and it’s in the basement of Calcio! It’s run by Caroline Martins, a former MasterChef contestant.
Caroline brings a taste of Brazil to the city. The vibe is cozy, like stepping into a friend’s kitchen. You can enjoy a twelve-course tasting menu that mixes local ingredients with Brazilian flavors.
When we visited, the atmosphere was buzzing. Football fans were upstairs, and we were downstairs, ready for a culinary adventure. The menu features everything from Manchester smoked salmon to traditional Brazilian dishes.
Each dish tells a story. Caroline’s passion shines through as she explains the inspiration behind her creations. The crispy polvilho puffs were a great start, and they reminded me of Brazil.
One standout was the sopa de fuba, a comforting soup that felt like a warm hug. It’s rich and creamy, perfect for a chilly day. And if you love seafood, you’ll find delicious options like Devon crab and Orkney scallops.
Caroline’s twist on stroganoff was a highlight too. She uses unique ingredients like Brazil nuts and potato chips. It’s a fun take on a classic dish that you won’t forget.
As we moved through the courses, the flavors kept impressing us. The pao de queijo cheese breads were so good, especially with the sweetcorn butter. It’s rich and indulgent, just how I like it.
We even got to try a selection of British cheeses paired with local honey. It was a delightful way to end the meal. And the chocolate mushroom dessert? Pure art! It tasted as good as it looked.
Caroline’s excitement is contagious. She loves sharing her culinary journey, blending her Brazilian roots with Manchester’s vibrant food scene. It’s clear she’s onto something special.
With a price of £58 per person for the tasting menu, it’s a fantastic experience. You can even add drink pairings for an extra treat. I can’t wait for more people to discover SAMPA!
