Greater Manchester: A police officer named Sophie Standing has found herself in hot water. She showed up for work while under the influence of alcohol, which is just not cool. After a misconduct hearing, it was revealed that she was also convicted of drink-driving last July.

The hearing made it clear that her behavior was unacceptable. If she hadn’t resigned, she would have been fired on the spot. The report stated that her actions were not only dangerous but also brought shame to the police force.

Standing was fined £300 and banned from driving for 20 months. Plus, she has to pay court costs and a victim surcharge. Now, her name is on the College of Policing’s ‘Barred List,’ meaning she can’t work as a police officer again.

The Chief Resources Officer at GMP, Lee Rawlinson, emphasized that her actions seriously damage public trust in the police. He pointed out that being on duty while drunk is a major breach of conduct. It’s a real shame, as it reflects poorly on the entire police service.

In the end, it’s a tough lesson for Standing, and it serves as a reminder of the importance of accountability in law enforcement.
