Exciting changes are coming to Broadfield Park Slopes in Rochdale. A new project aims to restore its historic features and enhance safety for everyone.

Rochdale: Big changes are on the way for Broadfield Park Slopes. The Casey Group has been chosen to lead the restoration project. They’ll be fixing up the historic slopes behind the Town Hall.
Part of the plan includes bringing back the Packer Spout fountain and a natural pond. They’ll also repair the obelisks near the fountain and the walking paths. Plus, there will be better lighting and more CCTV to help keep the area safe.
People in Rochdale have said they feel unsafe there, so these upgrades are much needed. The project is set to cost £3 million, funded by the council and the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
There’s even an activity program planned for residents of all ages to join in. Recently, an archaeological dig found some old wall and drain remains, dating back to the 17th or 18th century.
Council member Danny Meredith is excited about the project. He mentioned how this area is rich in history, nestled between the town hall and St Chad’s Church. He believes this project will help uncover more of Rochdale’s heritage.
Meredith also noted that this is the final piece of the puzzle after the town hall restoration and other nearby improvements. He’s thrilled to see a local company like Casey taking on this work.
Helen Featherstone from the National Lottery Heritage Fund shared her excitement too. She said this milestone is fantastic news for the community. The project will help reveal more of Rochdale’s medieval history and make the slopes enjoyable for everyone.
She emphasized how important heritage is for community pride, and this project is something locals can truly be proud of.
