Joanne Neal shares her inspiring weight loss journey after struggling with dating apps. She reveals how her unhealthy habits led to blocking potential matches and her incredible transformation.

Stockport: Joanne Neal, a grandmother of three, had a tough time with dating apps. Whenever someone asked for a full-length photo, she would block them instantly.
For years, she struggled with her weight, often snacking on unhealthy foods. Chocolate bars and Wagon Wheels were her go-to treats, and she loved a good bottle of rosé.
At 56, she found herself in size 18 clothes, which made her feel self-conscious. After a tough breakup and two slipped discs during the pandemic, things got worse.
Joanne was in so much pain that she had to crawl around her house. She tried acupuncture and massages, but a consultant told her she was too heavy for surgery.
Feeling desperate, she joined Slimming World in February 2023. By making healthier choices, she lost an amazing 6st 10lbs. She realized her unhealthy food habits were holding her back.
Joanne shared, “I had a drawer full of chocolate. I’d grab those instead of cooking.” She felt ashamed of her weight and avoided dating altogether.
Now, she’s a size 12 and credits Slimming World for her success. She batch cooks and checks menus before dining out, making healthier swaps.
Joanne no longer needs crutches or surgery. “My life is so different now,” she said. She feels confident and has more energy.
Excitingly, she’s launching her own Slimming World group in Shaw Heath on February 1. Anyone interested can join her every Saturday morning.
