Drivers should brace for significant delays on the M61 as two lanes remain closed due to emergency repairs following a serious incident
Bolton: So, there’s a bit of a mess on the M61 right now. Drivers are being warned to expect some serious delays today. Two lanes on the southbound side have been closed since Sunday evening because of emergency work.
This all started after a lorry lost its load in a crash between junctions four and three. They kicked off the cleanup overnight, but guess what? There was another spillage during those repairs early this morning.
Now, those two lanes are going to stay shut until later tonight when they plan to do some emergency resurfacing. This morning, the lane closures caused traffic jams that lasted about an hour, and nearby roads were pretty packed too.
Motorists are being advised to plan ahead for the evening rush hour since the situation is still ongoing. A spokesperson from National Highways North West shared on X that two of the three lanes are closed due to a significant hydraulic fluid spill from that earlier collision.
They also mentioned that a crane brought in to help clear the shed load ended up leaking oil across the road. So, it’s a bit of a double whammy for drivers today!
