Forecasters predict a cold spell from the US will impact UK weather next week

Greater Manchester: So, the weather’s about to get a bit chilly. The Met Office is saying that a cold spell from the US is going to influence our weather next week.
This weekend, temperatures are expected to sit around 5C or 6C. It looks like we’ll have a mostly dry couple of days, with rain not showing up until at least Wednesday.
On Saturday, it’ll start off cold with some fog and frost in the countryside. The clouds will stick around, but we might see a few sunny spots in the east later on. Still, it’ll feel pretty chilly with a max of 5C.
Then on Sunday, expect a widespread morning frost. There might be some brighter moments, but overall, it’ll stay cold. The clouds will thicken in the afternoon, bringing a bit of light rain. The high will only be around 4C.
From Monday to Wednesday, we can expect some patchy rain and drizzle, mixed with drier spells. The nights will be cold and frosty, but daytime temps should bounce back to average.
The Met Office shared on X, formerly Twitter, that a severe cold spell is brewing in North America this weekend. This could change our weather as we head into next week.
As that cold air meets warmer tropical air, it’s likely to strengthen the jet stream, which will start to affect our weather by the end of next week. They’re warning us about the chance of wet and windy conditions.
Looking ahead to early February, the Met Office suggests we might see a shift to more changeable and unsettled weather. Rain and stronger winds could roll in from the southwest, making things a bit messy.
While milder, wetter, and windier weather seems most likely, there’s still a small chance that colder air from Europe could bring some snow to northern Britain. As January wraps up, we might see more strong winds and heavy rain coming in from the Atlantic, with some big swings in temperature day to day.
