Manchester: It’s a bummer for fast food fans in Manchester. Almost Famous, a beloved burger joint, has closed its doors. Diane Bourne from the M.E.N. called it a true Manchester original.

Almost Famous was known for its towering burgers and unique take on American fast food. It really kicked off the “dirty food” trend back in 2012. Sadly, the owner, Beau Myers, cited economic struggles and debt as reasons for the closure.

It’s tough to say goodbye to a place that introduced many of us to indulgent burgers. This closure got us thinking about other fast food favorites that have disappeared from our high streets.

To celebrate these lost gems, we’ve put together a list of eight fast food spots we used to adore in Manchester. Many of these places were around before social media, but they would have been all over TikTok and Instagram if they were still here.

One name that pops up often is The Great American Disaster. This burger bar claimed to bring the original American burger to the UK. It opened in the 1970s and had branches in several cities, including Manchester.

Pizzaland is another one that many remember fondly. It started in London and expanded to over 140 locations. Unfortunately, it was taken over and many locations became Pizza Huts, leading to its eventual disappearance.

Then there was the Dutch Pancake House, famous for its wild pancake combinations. It closed over 15 years ago, but many still miss its quirky menu.

Wimpy was once a staple in Manchester, with its first restaurant opening in 1958. It was the go-to place for burgers long before McDonald’s took over. Sadly, it’s been years since we’ve seen a Wimpy around.

Starvin’ Marvin’s was another favorite, especially in the 90s. This diner had a classic American vibe and a menu full of delicious options. It was a hit but eventually faded away.

Let’s not forget Berni Inn, which introduced many to steak and chips. It was a popular chain that laid the groundwork for today’s pub restaurants.

Little Chef was a classic pit stop for many road trips. It had a unique breakfast menu and was a favorite until it closed down in 2017.

Lastly, Casey Jones was a fast food chain found in train stations. It was a familiar sight for commuters but has since disappeared from the scene.

These places hold a special place in our hearts. If you have a favorite fast food spot that’s gone, share it with us!
