Rochdale: Big changes are on the way! A new five-storey apartment block is being built right in the heart of town. It will have 33 one-bedroom apartments on a piece of land off Drake Street.

This spot used to be home to Ivesons, a local furniture and carpet store. After it closed in 1998, the place fell apart and was eventually torn down in the early 2000s.

The developers, Cassel & Fletcher, say the area has become an eyesore. Their plan is to put up a stylish apartment complex that’s part four and part five stories tall.

The ground floor will have two apartments, bike storage for 22 bikes, a bin area, and a lobby. The other 31 apartments will be on the upper floors.

Interestingly, there won’t be any car parking included. But don’t worry! The developers point out that the homes are close to the bus interchange and train station.

Planning documents say this site is in a great spot in Rochdale’s town center. It’s surrounded by shops, services, and job opportunities.

Plus, it’s super easy to get around by public transport. The Rochdale Town Centre metrolink tram stop is just a short three-minute walk away, with frequent services to Manchester City Centre.
