Manchester: A former ice hockey player named Philip Hamer has been sentenced to 28 years in prison. He was found guilty of abusing seven girls over several years.

Hamer, who is 34, had a twisted view of children. He used social media to groom and manipulate young girls, some as young as 11. It’s heartbreaking to think about how he targeted them.

In court, the judge described his actions as controlling and coercive. Hamer admitted to some charges but denied others, claiming one victim was “wanton.” But the jury saw through his lies.

Victims shared their pain in court. One woman said Hamer ruined her ability to have healthy relationships. Another spoke about losing her innocence and the lasting trauma she faces.

Hamer would send inappropriate pictures and pressure his victims to do the same. He often took them to secluded spots in his car, where the abuse occurred. It’s just awful.

Police only began investigating after a victim came forward in 2023. They found disturbing images on his phone, proving he was a serial offender. It’s shocking how long he got away with it.

Detective Constable Denise Garde called Hamer a sexual predator. She emphasized the importance of speaking out about abuse. It’s crucial for victims to know they will be heard and supported.

Hamer’s case highlights the need for awareness and protection for young people. No one should have to endure what these girls went through. Justice has been served, but the scars remain.
