Oldham: The town is on the lookout for a new chief executive after Harry Catherall’s departure at the end of 2024. They’ve put out a job ad that promises a salary of over £200,000 for someone who can handle the challenges ahead.

The council needs a strong leader to step in during this time of change. Catherall is moving to Tameside council to help fix their struggling children’s services, leaving Oldham in need of a steady hand.

Right now, Catherall is splitting his time between both councils, but that’s set to end in April. They really need someone full-time to take charge. In a video, council leader Arooj Shah highlighted the contrasts in Oldham, saying the life expectancy can vary by up to 12 years depending on where you live.

Shah emphasized the importance of finding a chief executive who can advocate for all residents. The job comes with a hefty salary, but it’s not going to be a walk in the park. The council is looking for someone with a solid background in leadership, especially in complex situations.

They’re also in the middle of a big regeneration project aimed at revitalizing the town center and addressing issues like the high street’s decline. The council hopes to wrap up interviews by February 21, with a decision to be made by March 6.
