Eight individuals have been arrested following a drive-by shooting that left a teenager seriously injured in Oldham
Oldham: So, there was this really shocking incident where a teenager got seriously hurt in a drive-by shooting. It all went down in broad daylight, which is just wild. Apparently, a guy on an electric bike opened fire on a taxi, and the 18-year-old was hit while getting out of the car with some friends.
Fast forward to Saturday, and the police updated everyone that the teen is in the hospital with serious injuries but is stable now. They said he’s lucky to be alive, and they think this was a targeted attack.
The shooting happened around noon on Shaw Road in the Derker area. Armed police rushed to the scene, and they even called in an air ambulance. It was a pretty chaotic scene with cordons set up at several junctions nearby.
Now, here’s the twist: the police have arrested eight people in connection with this. They’ve got three juveniles, an 18-year-old, and two guys in their 20s still in custody. A 19-year-old and a man in his 40s were released on bail while the investigation continues.
Initially, the police thought the victim was 19, but they’ve since confirmed he’s actually 18. They also corrected themselves about the gunman being on a motorbike; it was an electric bike instead.
Detective Chief Inspector Charlotte Whalley mentioned that they’re working hard to find out who’s responsible. She reassured the community that this seems to be a targeted attack, so there’s no wider risk to the public.
She emphasized that firearms have no place in Oldham or Greater Manchester, and they take incidents like this very seriously. If anyone has info, they can call the police or Crimestoppers.
