Cheadle Heath: So, it looks like a lot of folks are really backing the idea of a new Lidl store in town. Over 400 residents have signed a petition to show their support. The supermarket is hoping to get the green light from the local council soon.

The proposed store would be pretty spacious, featuring a bakery and plenty of parking spots. It’s set to be built at Cheadle Heath Works, right near the busy Roscoes Roundabout. If everything goes well, it could create around 40 new jobs, which is great news for the area.

However, there’s been some drama. The planning application was supposed to be discussed in December, but Lidl pushed it back at the last minute. Some councillors were not happy about that, feeling it was a bit disrespectful to the planning process.

There were also concerns from nearly 60 residents who objected to the plans, mainly about traffic issues. They worry that the roads are already too busy, especially during peak times. Lidl claims they’ve worked hard to address these concerns and have made adjustments to the plan.

The new store would also come with some nice features like electric vehicle charging points and better landscaping. The council is expected to discuss the application again soon, and if they approve it, it’ll go to the planning committee for a final decision.

Nick Harvey from Lidl expressed his excitement about the support from locals. He believes this new store would really help improve shopping options in the area. He’s encouraging anyone who hasn’t yet shared their thoughts to speak up and show their support for the plans.
