A man avoided jail after threatening his partner with a hammer during a heated argument over infidelity
Ashton-under-Lyne: So, there’s this guy, Richard Jones, who got into some serious trouble for threatening his partner with a hammer. They were only together for a short time, but things got really heated last April. He’s got a history of violence, too, which doesn’t help his case.
During one fight, he slapped her and even smashed up a TV. Then, a few weeks later, when she tried to leave, he accused her of cheating and went off the rails. He hit her in the face with the hammer, leaving her with bruises. Not cool at all.
In court, his lawyer argued that he had been in custody for a while, which was like serving a 17-month sentence already. They thought maybe he could get a break and focus on getting better instead of going to jail. Richard has autism, which makes it tough for him to handle relationships, but that doesn’t excuse his actions.
He did apologize in court, saying she didn’t deserve what happened and that he learned his lesson. The judge, however, pointed out that he has a pattern of jealousy and violence. In the end, he got a two-year community order and has to do some rehabilitation work. Let’s hope he really takes this chance to change.
