Mountain rescuers faced treacherous conditions for eight hours to save a man stuck in deep snow in the Peak District
Glossop: It was quite the scene in the Peak District when mountain rescuers had to dig deep—literally! They spent over eight hours battling through three feet of snow to rescue a trekker who got stuck. Can you imagine trudging through that kind of snow? It’s no joke!
About 60 volunteers from different rescue teams came together on a chilly Tuesday afternoon. They got the call at 3:21 PM after the poor guy found himself in a bit of a pickle in the deep snow. It took a while to locate him, but they didn’t give up.
Initially, 30 members from the Glossop Mountain Rescue Team headed out, but soon they were joined by 12 from Kinder and 18 from Edale. The conditions were tough, and visibility was pretty poor, making it hard to find the trekker.
Once they finally located him, they treated him for hypothermia and carefully brought him back to safety. The rescuers wrapped up their mission around midnight, and they were super grateful for the help from their neighboring teams.
A spokesperson from the Glossop team shared that they had to use various search patterns to find the guy since they couldn’t pinpoint his exact location. The snow was drifting up to three feet deep, which made things even trickier.
They had to call in the Coastguard helicopter for backup, but unfortunately, the weather turned nasty, and the chopper couldn’t make it. So, the Kinder and Edale teams stepped in to help carry the stretcher back to the road.
In the end, they used a new sled to transport the casualty to Snake Summit, where an ambulance was waiting to take him for further treatment. They all wished him a speedy recovery, which is the least they could do after such a harrowing experience!
