Oldham: So, there was this crazy incident where a guy got shot while getting out of a taxi. It happened on Shaw Road around lunchtime on January 16. Police were quick to respond.
Apparently, a guy on a motorcycle fired shots at the taxi passengers in broad daylight. It’s pretty wild! The victim was taken to the hospital with some serious injuries.
After the shooting, police set up cordons in several areas around Oldham, including Mortimer Street and Huddersfield Road. Armed officers were also spotted on Almond Road. They arrested a 19-year-old suspect for attempted murder.
As of Friday morning, he’s still in custody. Superintendent Phil Hutchinson reassured locals that the heavy police presence is just part of their investigation. He understands that hearing about gun incidents can be shocking.
He mentioned that Greater Manchester has seen a record number of firearms seized recently, and overall, gun incidents are down. Still, he knows that doesn’t lessen the seriousness of this event.
Police are talking to witnesses and locals, but they’re also asking anyone with info to reach out. If you know something, call 101 and mention log 1281 from January 16, or you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously.
