Howarth, 36, was disruptive during the safety briefing. He even called a stewardess a ‘d***head’ when asked to buckle up. It was clear he was highly intoxicated.
Police had to board the plane after it turned around at Manchester Airport. Cabin crew reported that Howarth was swearing at other passengers, making the situation worse.
Initially, he seemed cooperative with the officers. But as they tried to escort him off, he became aggressive. He resisted and even attempted to fight back.
Prosecutor Saul Brody described how he was taken to the floor and handcuffed. He thrashed around, trying to hit passengers and officers. Other passengers cheered as he was removed.
One officer told him he was out of line, especially with kids on board. Howarth slurred back, insisting he was going on holiday. He laughed when told he was being arrested for being drunk.
In a video released later, he was seen trying to kick officers and making threats. Howarth has a history of being drunk and disorderly, among other offenses.
His lawyer claimed he was pressured into drinking due to his fear of flying. Howarth expressed deep remorse, saying he was ashamed of his actions.
He was sentenced to 14 weeks in jail. The judge condemned his behavior, emphasizing the poor example he set for his children. Howarth pleaded guilty to multiple charges related to the incident.
