A man was startled awake by a dad kicking his door. Things escalated quickly when the dad tried to pour diesel through the letterbox, leading to a chaotic scene.
Salford: Imagine waking up at 2am to loud banging on your door. That’s what happened to a guy when a dad, David Smith, was kicking his door like crazy.
They had met just a week before when Smith asked for a cigarette. But that night, things took a wild turn. Smith was with another guy, and they were making a scene.
At around 2:40am, the banging got louder. Smith was shouting all sorts of nasty things, demanding the man open up. He even kicked the door and yelled, “Open your f****** door, you s*** bag!”
Then, he noticed the CCTV camera and tried to hide it. But it still caught some of the craziness. Smith ran to his van, grabbed a Jerry can of diesel, and came back.
He started making wild accusations and kept demanding the door be opened. A neighbor, also disturbed by the noise, came out and was told not to worry. But Smith didn’t care; he said he was going to set the guy on fire.
In the footage shown in court, Smith tried to pour the diesel through the letterbox. Luckily, no diesel ended up inside. When the police arrived, they found him outside, just chilling and smoking.
The victim couldn’t even open his door because it was so damaged. Fixing it cost him £4,000. He later shared that he felt like a prisoner in his own home and had even taken two overdoses because of the stress.
Smith’s lawyer said he didn’t mean to light the diesel and that he was drunk and struggling with mental health issues. But the judge wasn’t having it. He sentenced Smith to two years in jail, saying he clearly had a drinking problem and a bad temper.
Smith, who lived on Kiwi Street, had already admitted to making threats and causing damage. It’s a wild story that shows how quickly things can spiral out of control.
