Stockport: There’s a big plan brewing to build homes on Mirrlees Fields. This has stirred up quite a bit of debate in the community.

So, the latest news is that a new planning application has been submitted. This one is for 200 homes in Hazel Grove. It follows a long legal tussle over the project.

Initially, Stockport Council said no to the plans last year. They were worried about losing valuable green space in the area.

But then, an appeal changed everything. The Planning Inspector stepped in and overturned the council’s decision. They believed the new homes would benefit Stockport.

Even with over 5,000 people signing a petition against it, the inspector sided with the developers. They pointed out the need for more housing.

The developers plan to create 18 hectares of public open space. This area will be managed for the community to enjoy forever.

Interestingly, all the homes will now be labeled as ‘affordable.’ This is a shift from the original plan, which only included half as affordable.

Mark Calvert from Kellen Homes mentioned that this step is crucial. They want to meet the housing needs while also enhancing the local environment.

He emphasized their goal is to create a lasting green space for everyone. It sounds like they’re aiming for a win-win situation here.
