Old Trafford: A planning application has been filed to turn an old industrial site into a 33-flat apartment block. This new development will be car-free, which is quite a change.

The plan includes 31 two-bedroom and two one-bedroom apartments spread over five floors. It’s located on Chester Road, right near the Manchester city center.

Architects say the area is well-served by public transport. The Cornbrook Metrolink stop is just a short walk away, plus there are frequent bus services. So, no parking spaces will be included, but each flat will have secure bike parking.

This application comes from The Trustees of the Yang Sing Group of Individual SIPP. The design team, Atelier MB, worked with engineers to make sure the building is energy-efficient.

They plan to add solar panels and use high insulation levels. Heat pumps and recovery systems will help cut energy use by over 50%. That’s pretty impressive!

The design takes inspiration from the historic red brick mills and Georgian terraces in the area. Lower-level apartments will have private gardens, while those above will feature balconies.

Heloise Wood, the design director, mentioned that this project allows them to create modern homes while respecting the local heritage. She also noted that the no-car approach lets them provide lovely garden spaces for residents.
