Manchester: A man named Martin Frost has admitted to a serious offense. He set fire to a Quran while live-streaming it on social media. This happened at the Glade of Light memorial.
Frost, 47, was seen tearing pages from the Quran and burning them. He had announced his plans online before the incident. The court heard that he was deeply affected by his daughter’s death in the Israeli conflict.
During the act, a passer-by tried to stop him. Frost shouted that Islam had no place in civil society. He even threw the burned pages into a nearby river.
Frost claimed he was showing support for an anti-Islam activist in Sweden. This activist had been killed after burning a Quran. A witness expressed shock and distress over Frost’s actions.
Frost’s lawyer said he was very upset about the pain he caused. His mental health has been declining since his daughter’s death. The court learned he has a long criminal history but nothing like this before.
The judge acknowledged his loss but emphasized the Quran’s significance to Muslims. She stated that such behavior is unacceptable in a tolerant society. Frost was released on bail with conditions, and sentencing is set for April 29.
