Westhoughton: The library has been in pretty rough shape lately. Chunks of masonry have been falling off, and it’s even got a tree growing out of the front. Can you believe it?

Finally, the council has approved repairs. This library has been surrounded by scaffolding for ages. It’s been like that since some bricks started falling about 15 months ago.

Councillor David Wilkinson was not happy about how long it took to get things moving. He said if they waited any longer, the front might just fall off. That’s a bit scary, right?

This library is a Carnegie library, built thanks to Andrew Carnegie’s donations. It’s been around since 1906, so it’s a big deal for the community.

Wilkinson pointed out that the pictures shown to the committee were outdated. He said there are big chunks missing now, and scaffolding has been up for three years. That’s way too long!

Another councillor, Arthur Price, also welcomed the news. He’s been raising concerns about the library’s condition for years. He hopes repairs will start soon to prevent more damage.

Now that the planning application has been approved, everyone is looking forward to seeing the library restored to its former glory. Let’s hope the repairs happen quickly!
