Stalybridge: A nightclub that once drew crowds could soon welcome foodies instead. The old Rififi nightclub, which closed over ten years ago, might be reborn as a food hall.

This new spot, called ‘The Palace’, pays tribute to its history. It will feature a 1940s themed secret bar and a jazz bar/restaurant. Sounds fun, right?

Monopoly Events submitted the proposal, which includes a fresh interior and a new canopy. Planning documents say the historic building will house several restaurants.

Before it was a nightclub, the place was known as Palace Cinema. It originally opened in 1913 as the Empire Palace Picture Theatre.

The planning papers highlight that this project will stop the building’s decline. It aims to secure its future while boosting the local economy.

They plan to enhance the building’s look with careful restoration. This includes a new entrance and a cozy seating area.

The design will reflect Art Deco style, fitting for a cinema from the golden age. The proposal promises to improve the building and its role in the community.
